The woman arrested for fatally stabbing Calvin Martin at a Motel 6 in National City pleads not guilty to a murder charge.

According to the National City Police Department, Martin was found gravely injured in the area of East Ninth Street and L Avenue at about 6 a.m. in the 1100 block of East Plaza Boulevard near the Motel 6. Paramedics transported the victim to the UCSD Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police arrested 44 -year-old Amalia Samaniego near the scene in connection with the stabbing, though authorities have not disclosed a suspected motive for the stabbing.

Prosecutors alleged she stabbed Martin, then later struck him with a broom handle or stick.

Samaniego stated in court Monday during her arraignment that the victim had strangled her and threatened to kill her.

Authorities have not released the extent of her relationship with Martin if any.

Samaniego faces up to 26 years to life in state prison if convicted and faces a knife allegation and a murder charge. She remains without bail.
