LAS VEGAS – The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions again after defeating the San Francisco 49ers in overtime at Allegiant Stadium.
On Sunday, one of the most exciting games occurred in Las Vegas between the Chiefs and the 49ers, with a final score of 25-22 in favor of the reigning defending champions.
After the game, the Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, said this was the start of a new dynasty. He believes they are not done yet, despite Travis Kelce entering his mid-30s.
Furthermore, he compliments his head coach, Andy Reid, for this year’s success despite all the challenges they’ve had to face.
“Yeah, it’s the start of one. We’re not done. I know we’re gonna celebrate tonight, celebrate at the parade Wednesday in Kansas City, but we’re not done. We’ve got a young team, we’re gonna keep this thing going,” said the legendary quarterback after the game. “For me, he brings out the best in me because he lets me be me. He doesn’t try to make me anyone else, I don’t think I would be the quarterback that I am if I didn’t have coach Reid being my head coach.”
The game was in control of San Francisco for most of this game, intercepting Mahomes, sacking Mahomes, recovering fumbles, it was all going the 49ers way throughout the night. However, in the second half of the game, everything changed when the Chiefs punted the ball, and the 49ers turned it over and allowed Kansas City to get an easy touchdown.
The Chiefs went on to take the lead in the fourth quarter to go up by three points. The Niners scored a touchdown shortly after but would go on to miss a crucial extra-point kick. This huge miss gave San Francisco just a three-point lead, which the Chiefs would tie with a field goal in the last seconds of the game.
This Super Bowl went into overtime with a 19-19 scoreboard.
San Francisco won the coin toss, which they elected to receive the ball with an opportunity to score a touchdown and put the pressure on Kansas City. However, San Francisco would only get a field goal, which put Kansas City in a position to do the same or score a touchdown to win the Super Bowl.
Mahomes had a magical game-winning drive that led to a touchdown and gave Kansas City another Super Bowl victory in back-to-back seasons.
