The Wave has added more international talent to its roster by acquiring Hanna Lundkvist from the Spanish league and Kaitlyn Torpey from Melbourne City FC.
San Diego Wave recently announced the new roster addition after reaching a one-year deal with the former Atletico de Madrid player in exchange for an undisclosed fee. As with Kaitlyn Torpey, the new Wave player will join the team pending receipt of her P1 visa(exclusive for athletes and entertainers) and her International Transfer Certificate.
The club has expressed that this addition will benefit the team’s ability to succeed in the upcoming 2024 NWSL season.

“Hanna is an excellent fit and will be a great addition to our group. Her quality and international experience will all serve her well here in San Diego,” said San Diego Wave FC General Manager Molly Downtain. “We look forward to welcoming Hanna and integrating her with the team as we continue to strengthen the roster ahead of the 2024 season.”
The one-year deal includes a mutual option for the following 2025 NWSL season.
The 21-year-old international talent joined Atletico de Madrid in December 2021, where she made 23 appearances during her three-season run in the Spanish capital.
In the summer of 2023, Lundkvist was called up for the Swedish World Cup rester but eventually couldn’t join due to injury.
San Diego Wave FC General Manager Molly Downtain also stated the addition of Kaitlyn Torpey will help the team build a defensive back-line for the future, which will feature Lundkvist and American star, Noami Girma.
“Kaitlyn is a talented young defender and has a bright future ahead of her with the Wave,” said San Diego Wave FC General Manager Molly Downtain. “She’s a fantastic addition to our strong group of defenders, and is a great fit to what we are building in San Diego, and we are excited to welcome her to the club.”
Torpey’s deal is a two-year contract that runs through the 2025 season.
