A Chula Vista apartment building carport fire destroyed four cars and damaged several others.
The blaze ignited at 228 Kennedy St. around 2:30 a.m., police told Fox5 News. The fire destroyed the carport.
A fire department battalion chief told the station that a two-alarm response was required after firefighters found significant fire that threatened a nearby apartment building.
Residents were evacuated from the building and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
