The County’s Health and Human Services have reopened the Cool Zone Program for the summer, from June 1st to October 31st, where you will find free air conditioning rooms in many locations to refresh when the hot summer arrives!

The County understands that being outside in the sun can have negative effects on people, especially children and older adults. It's important to watch out for symptoms like cramps or exhaustion, which may indicate the need for rest.

Moreover, beware of a body temperature of over 103 degrees, dizziness, nausea, headaches, and confusion, these are all signs of a potential heatstroke, under hot weather. In case of these symptoms call 9-1-1 and try to head to a cool zone immediately!

The City of Chula Vista is providing cooling options at several locations, including Chula Vista Public Library – Otay Ranch (365 F St, Chula Vista, CA 91910), Chula Vista Public Library – South Branch (389 Orange Ave, Chula Vista, CA 91911), and Chula Vista Public Library – Civic Center (365 F St, Chula Vista, CA 91910). These locations are available to help individuals beat the heat and stay safe.

There are a total of 33 Branch Libraries in the County, as well as several community centers and other locations that would be great places to cool off. You can find a complete list of these sites at https://www.sandiegocounty.gov/content/dam/sdc/hhsa/programs/ais/documents/Cool%20Z ones%20Sites%20Website%20Update.pdf.

The website also offers a map, where you can input your zip code or location and it will take you to the nearest Cool Zone. Here’s a link to this feature,

If you're unable to locate a place or if you're far away from it, you can dial 2-1-1 for help, or ask for a ride to the nearest location without any charge.

Likewise, the County has also partnered with San Diego Gas and Electric to offer free electric fans! This is only applicable to the elderly (60 years or older) or disabled people who are in low-income situations. During this summer, ensure your well-being by utilizing the health resources offered by the County.
