CHULA VISTA – South County residents will have the opportunity to help shape the future of higher education in the region during the South County Higher Education Planning Task Force Community Forum, scheduled for Saturday, July 25, in Chula Vista.
The forum will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at High Tech High School, 1945 Discovery Falls Drive. The event is part of the planning process for the University District at Chula Vista, an initiative designed to expand access to higher education while strengthening the region’s economic development.
During the forum, community members will receive updates on the work of the South County Higher Education Planning Task Force, hear from regional leaders, and share their ideas to help guide the development of the project.
According to organizers, the University District at Chula Vista represents a new model for higher education that would bring multiple colleges and universities together in one location, expanding academic and career-focused educational opportunities while helping meet the workforce needs of the region.
The initiative is being led by the City of Chula Vista and the State of California through the South County Higher Education Planning Task Force, established under Assembly Bill 662, authored by Assemblymember David Álvarez. The task force has been charged with exploring the development of a future-focused university model for South County and is expected to submit its recommendations to the California Legislature by mid-2027.
Organizers are encouraging students, families, educators, business leaders, and residents to attend the forum and contribute ideas about the educational needs of the region.
The event is free and open to the public. More information about the project and the community forum is available at UniversityDistrictCV.com.
