Santa Claus will arrive in a Chula Vista Police Department Hot Rod early Monday morning to deliver gifts at the Holiday Meal & Toy Giveaway to help South Bay families in need.
Toys will be distributed to the children beginning at 7 a.m. at the Walmart located on 1150 Broadway in Chula Vista. A brand-new bicycle, scooter, or skateboard will be gifted to 25 children.
Over 600 South Bay families in need will receive meals and toys through this event hosted by the CVPD in partnership with local sponsors and support from the community. Participating families have already been invited and provided with a ticket/voucher for the event.
“As we reflect on this holiday season, we are all thankful for what we have and what we can give to others. Together, Chula Vista Police Department employees and Walmart employees encourage others to help those in need. Please join us as we make a difference in our community and show our community that our officers truly have a heart for helping others,” Lt. Frank Giaime wrote in a statement.
Community members in need of help for the holidays may also have an opportunity to receive a meal and can wait in a non-voucher/ticket line. Meals will be served on a first-come-first-serve basis until supplies last.
Additionally, those in attendance will meet players from The San Diego Strike Force, a professional arena football team, and participate with Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy by handing out meals to families. A live performance by Mariachi Torres will take place at the event.
“Chula Vista Police Chief Roxana Kennedy would like to emphasize these types of events showcase the amazing men and women of the Chula Vista Police Department who go above and beyond daily to make a positive difference in our community by embracing the true meaning of the holidays,” Giaime said.
