Peter Parker shoots his web to the top of the box office over the weekend.

As of Sunday, Marvel's Spider-Man: No Way Home reportedly took in a pandemic record of $253 million from 4,336 movie theatres across the country.

The new Marvel film's record-setting numbers come as no surprise to comic fans worldwide, considering the high anticipation leading up to the movie release this week. However, the numbers are impressive to film critics when considering COVID restrictions. The film has already collected more money within the U.S. than all other movies released since the pandemic initiated over 18 months ago.

Many film critics predicted that the film would gross anywhere between $130 to $150 million on its opening weekend. The film successfully bagged a staggering $121 million alone on the first day of showings, which by far exceeds Spider-man's expectations entering the week.

One of the film's successes was the expected return of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire to the screen as Spider-man, including old villains that all three actors have faced in previous films, such as Doc Ock and Green Goblin, Electro, and Sandman.

The film was so special for some moviegoers that they had to go back and watch it again. One of those moviegoers is Brenda Chand, a Chula Vista native and Marvel fan, and she says she was most impressed by how the film successfully took everyone back through memory lane.

"I loved it; it was a culmination of multiple storylines and three different franchises," Chand said. "I saw it on Thursday night and Friday, Tom Holland's performance was exceptional, and he elevated the character of Spiderman, so much that it felt like he grew up in this movie," she added.

With these box office numbers by the newest Spider-man film, it now places itself third all-time in biggest domestic open ever, just behind Avengers: End Game and Avengers: Infinity War.
