A border patrol pursuit resulted in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Saturday evening when the driver steered off road and crashed in Jamul, killing one person and injuring three according to fire officials.
A vehicle described as a black sedan with four passengers sped down Otay Mountain east of Otay Lakes Rd shortly after 6 p.m. according to Border Patrol officials. The driver lost control attempting to flee, and went head-on into a tree which caused three of the four people to be ejected from the car. Officials say the driver was the only one wearing a seat belt.
According to Cal Fire Fire prevention specialist, Julia Martony, first responders arrived at the scene around 6:15 p.m., and found one dead and two injured. The two injured individuals were transferred to a local hospital.
Otay Lakes Road remained closed to traffic while authorities investigated.
