In Tijuana, Las Ahumaderas is one the most popular eating spots amongst locals and tourists because of its unique approach where you can find multiple different open-air taco stands in the same alley.
They are now taking over the South Bay, specifically Chula Vista, and, as said through their Instagram, they will be soft launching their restaurant today, December 27, at 1011 Broadway.
Las Ahumaderas has a rich history, they have been serving hungry taco lovers since the 1960s and are still owned by the first owners. The original concept was that each of the taco stands in the family-built alley offered a different kind of taco which is unified at Chula Vista’s Las Ahumaderas.
The owners of two of the original taco stands at Las Ahumaderas, Tacos El Poblano and Las Quince Letras joined forces to replicate the collective. And after over two years of development, the Chula Vista natives Pedro & Claudia Rodriguez, are now ready to open to the public.
The couple is following the legacy of Claudia’s family who are the original owners of some of Las Ahumadera’s most famous taco spots.
A fun fact about Las Ahumaderas in Tijuana is that it started to get popular with tourists back in 2012 when Anthony Bourdain showcased the taco alley in one of the episodes of his T.V. show “ Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations”.
While their menu is vast, some of the food they will be offering are staples like tacos, tortas, mulitas, vampiros (a taco with grilled cheese), quesadillas, and burritos, all available with all types of meat. And with new additions, like an “Heloteria”, a stand where they sell Mexican street corn elote, Tijuana-style hot dogs, and nachos. Likewise, they also have a “Creperia” stand where they sell crepes with fresh fruit.
The food court-style taqueria will be open every day. Hours are Sunday to Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4 a.m.
