A report found that a person’s life expectancy varies depending on the state in which they were born.

The National Center for Health and Statistics found that Hawaii residents had the highest life expectancy at 80.9 years, while Mississippi ranks lowest at 74.4 years. California follows Hawaii also with a life expectancy of 80.9.

New York, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Washington, and Colorado all have a life expectancy of over 80.

The lowest life expectancy ranges from 74 to 75 years old. The state with the lowest life expectancy is Mississippi, followed by West Virginia, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.

According to the report, the life expectancy was longer for women in every state. California men can expect to live longer than men in any other state at 78.4 years, while California women have the second-highest expectancy at 83.3.

Hawaii, which ranked highest overall, also saw a big gap between expected outcomes for men and women. Mex was expected to die nearly six years earlier than women.

Utah, Idaho, Alaska, Washington, and Nebraska showed less of a difference in the life expectancy between men and women.

The data used by researchers was collected in 2019 and does not reflect life expectancy during the pandemic.
