Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said in a video on Twitter that the invasion of Ukraine is not a war of the Russian people.

In a message with Russian subtitles, the tabloid actor with 5 million Twitter followers said he wanted to tell Russians the truth about the war in Ukraine.

Schwarzenegger said in his message:

"I know that your government has told you that this is what  war to denazify Ukraine; that is not true."

"Ukraine is a country with a Jewish president whose father's three brothers were killed by the Nazis."

"You see, Ukraine did not start this war. Neither the nationalists nor the Nazis.

"Those in power in the Kremlin started this war. This is not the war of the Russian people."

The Austrian-born 74-year-old bodybuilder clarified that since he was 14 years old, he has admired and respected the Russian people.

So he said he spoke to the Russians with the "same sincere concern" with which he spoke to the American people when there was an attempted insurrection on January 6, 2021, on Capitol Hill in Washington.

He said that "the world has turned against Russia because of its actions in Ukraine, entire city blocks have been flattened by Russian artillery and bombs, including a children's hospital and a maternity hospital. It is a humanitarian crisis."

"In Russia, they are not telling you the truth about the consequences of this war either; I'm sorry to tell you that thousands of Russian soldiers have died, caught between Ukrainians fighting for their homeland and Russian leaders fighting for conquest."

"The Russian government has lied not only to its citizens but also to its soldiers. This is an illegal war; their lives, their members are being sacrificed for a senseless war condemned by the entire world."

Schwarzenegger said the Russians protesting the invasion of Ukraine who has been "beaten and jailed" are Russia's "new heroes" and "have the real heart of Russia."
