A high school graduate in Chula Vista is among 10 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program recipients who will receive $10,000 for up to four years toward college expenses.

Shannon Yeow of Chula Vista was selected as a recipient of the program for their exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship, program officials wrote in a statement. Yeow will be attending Princeton University.

Now in its 12th year, the Scholarship program has awarded $8.2 million to 205 students from 41 states attending 113 undergraduate campuses.

"Each year, we are proud to recognize some of the nation's most dynamic young leaders through the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program," said Anthony Pennay, chief learning officer, Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute. "The character, leadership, and tenacity of the class of 2022 were particularly inspiring, and we are eager to see them showcase these qualities in college and beyond."

The scholarship recipients were recognized at an exclusive Scholars Retreat at the Regan Library, where they participated in leadership-development activities, a community service project, and a formal awards program.

"It is our privilege to play a role in their leadership journeys and look forward to witnessing their individual and collective impact over the next four years," said Julie Grzeda, leader, global early career development, GE Aviation, and GE liaison for the scholarship.

The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education, according to the program website. Awards are for undergraduate study and may be used for education-related expenses, including tuition, fees, books, supplies, room, and board.

Scholars are also invited to participate in a special awards program and receive ongoing leadership-development support.

The 2023 application will open in Fall 2022.
