Toys ‘R’ Us will make a comeback to every Macy’s store in the nation this Holiday season, including several in San Diego County.
There are several Toys R Us stores throughout California according to Macy’s Website, including in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Escondido, National City, and San Diego. According to a company news release, the in-store shops will range from 1,000 sq feet to 10,000 sq feet in a selected location.
Stores may even flex up to an additional 500 to 3,000 sq. feet during the holiday season to offer “a wider assortment of products”, a news release said.
This comes after Toys R Us filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2017 to relieve itself of the debt left over $5 million in debt, closing all of its U.S. British, and Australian locations. In March 2021, WHP Global announced Toys “R” Us would be opening over 400 stores within Macy's beginning in 2022.
The Toys “R” Us shops will also feature a life-size “Geoffrey on a Bench” photo opportunity for families. To celebrate the openings, all Macy’s stores will host nine days of in-store events from Oct. 15 to 23, including family-friendly activities and daily giveaways from brands like Barbie, LEGO, and more.
Macy’s customers have shopped for Toy’s “R” Us products online since August 2021. According to the company’s reported earnings for the first quarter of 2022, toy sales were 15x higher than the comparable period prior to the Toys” R” Us partnership.
“Macy’s cannot wait to bring the Toys“R” Us experience to life in our stores,” said Nata Dvir, Macy’s chief merchandising officer. "We hope Toys” R” Us kids of all ages discover the joy of exploration and play within our shops and families create special memories together. The customer response to our partnership with Toys“R” Us has been incredible and our toy business has seen tremendous growth.”
