An SUV slammed into a Chula Vista home on Thursday after an elderly man accidentally hit the gas pedal while attempting to back out of his driveway.

The man, whose identity has not been released, attempted to back out of his driveway at around 10:28 a.m. and collided with the residence at 1873 Petaluma Drive, according to OnScene T.V., who first reported the incident.

The White Toyota SUV crashed outside of the bedroom of a 98-year-old woman who was taking her nap at the time of the collision. According to OnScene T.V., a part of her bed frame came down onto her at the time of the incident.

According to footage of the scene, the impact of the collision was strong enough to cave in the bedroom wall, partially shatter a window, cause a metal railing that lined the windowsill to bend and break off pieces of what appears to be cement stucco from the home’s exterior. The vehicle had also struck some of the home’s front yard landscape.

The rear end of the SUV sustained significant damage to the trunk, the back door, the bumper, and the headlights.

The driver was uninjured, and the woman was transported to a local hospital to check for injuries.
