A woman was killed and two others were hospitalized with severe injuries from a single-vehicle collision after their car swerved off a freeway ramp early Wednesday morning in Otay Mesa.
A white BMW traveled southbound at approximately 3:15 a.m on Interstate 805 transition to State Route 905 westbound when an 18-year-old female driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle subsequently overturned
According to OnScene T.V., the vehicle possibly hit a large mound of dirt and then hit a tree. The driver and front passenger were in critical condition. Rescue crews arrived on the scene, ripped the car's roof off, and pulled the three people out of the wreckage. A woman died on the scene and the condition of the other two passengers is still unknown, according to the CHP.
CHP officials are investigating the cause of the crash. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.
