A half-acre vegetation fire in the Butewick Canyon area of the Otay Mountain Wilderness was stopped today by Cal Fire San Diego firefighters who were dropped into the scene by helicopter.
The fire was reported shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, according to Cal Fire. The fire was initially said to be inaccessible by ground units.
Firefighting aircraft flying over the fire made progress in limiting the spread of the fire as they worked to get ground resources inserted. At 3:45 p.m., firefighters were inserted by helicopter to complete a
containment line.
Resources will be committed another for another hour or two, according to Cal Fire.
