The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce awarded Patricia Alverez de los Cabos, president and CEO of Energy Communications, Corp. for her long-time commitment to binational collaboration to connect with the Hispanic population.
Alvarez de los Cabos was among two other binational leaders who were celebrated for their commitment to binational collaboration at the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce’s 2022 International Tribune Awards. She received International Business of the Year through her small business, Energy Communications, Corp., which seeks to connect the Hispanic population and support public emergency messaging to engage with the US and Northern Baja California/Sonora region in Mexico.
“This recognition means something very important to me because it is recognition of the effort that my entire team has made for almost 34 years," Alvarez de los Cabos said, adding “Everything unites us”.
This Latina-owned small business was founded in 1989, representing the only local Spanish TV station in San Diego and the largest producer of Spanish content in the world known as Televisa California. Energy Communications, Corp. has made e strides beyond the business sector and cross-border by partnering with local government and nonprofit organizations.
“We are a binational community. We are a single region and nothing separates us. Everything unites us and we always have to do our work together, not looking for differences. We are equal,” Alvarez de los Cabos said in an interview with El Latino.
Energy Communications, Corp. has a local production of nearly 70 hours per week, which “makes us able to take people through the four newscasts that we have, everything that is relevant to both Californias,” according to Alvarez de los Cabos.
"This has been an intense and inspiring work of love and work that is only possible with the combination of the passion of a talented group of people who have accompanied us throughout this time,” she said. "We are a family.”
Alvarez de los Cabos emphasized their work during the COVID-19 outbreak, educating the Hispanic and Latino population in the binational region to bring more opportunities.
“That's something we have to do and at the same time communicate to the American people about the beauty of our culture; about the beauty of who we are, how we are; we are the working class of this country. We contribute to this country with a labor and intellectual force that no one else contributes and education then becomes binational. We educate on this side and we educate our community about the services and everything there is, ”Alvarez de los Cabos said.
