A male driver lost control of his car early Friday morning during a police pursuit and drove into a power pole in Chula Vista before going through a large chain link fence, causing a temporary power outage in the area.

A San Diego Police Officer attempted to pull over a male driver for a traffic violation on Main St. near the off-ramp from the southbound I-5, according to OnScene T.V. The suspect fled to the southbound I-5 which initiated the pursuit.

The pursuit was called off at one point due to the reckless driving and the speed of the suspect, according to OnScene T.V.

The male driver exited from Palomar St. and made his way onto Bay Blvd. He attempted to make a left turn at Stella St at a high speed and lost control of his vehicle. That is where he collided at approximately 2:48 a.m. with the power pole and chain link fence.

Officers found and detained a male and female near the Valero Gas Station on Palomar St and they were detained. According to OnScene TV, the male driver was found hiding under a car in the driveway of a house near the crash site and was arrested for failure to yield and the hit & run accident.

Another person was seen running away from the vehicle, but authorities were unable to locate them.

Although the incident caused a power outage in the area, SDG&E was able to get the power back on.
