A 68-year-old man who veered off a roadway and struck multiple residences in Bonita last week was identified as Howard Jones by the San Diego County Medical Examiners.

According to authorities, Jones was driving a White Nissan Sports Utility Vehicle on Jan.24 at approximately 9:30 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle on Corral Canyon Road near Country Vistas Lane.

The driver crashed through a property and then landed on the roof of a second house, according to authorities. Chula Vista Fire Department Capt. Josh Sanders told OnScene T.V. crews tried to “stabilize” the vehicle to help the driver, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries have been reported as a result of this collision.

The Medical Examiner’s office notes the cause of Death as being atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease, with contributing factors of blunt force injuries of the head. According to Capt. Sanders, the accident spends across three properties, so it is feasible that the vehicle went airborne.

The incident remains under investigation.
