The San Diego Chorus uses these contributions to raise funds for music education and international competitions. The 28% gratuity will also benefit the SD Chorus 4-part a capella to keep harmony accessible to singers and audiences.
The chorus was founded in 1951 by a non-profit organization, recently celebrating 70 years. SD Chorus has won numerous regional championships dedicated to promoting musical excellence and education. Under the guidance of Master Director Kathleen Hansen, each rehearsal produces vocal and performance lessons. In addition to musical development, this member-led group offers opportunities for leadership and creative contributions in areas such as communications, choreography, costume design, and show production.
Members travel from across southern California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii to participate. The chorus performs for over 30,000 people annually in local, regional, national, and international competitions and shows.
