In Ramona, family-owned Three Sons Farm has developed an agricultural production model since 2013 based on regenerative practices and the management of animals in free-range systems, according to information provided by the company itself.

The project began through the experience of a family whose three sons participated in the 4-H youth agricultural leadership program, where they developed projects involving the raising and exhibition of poultry, turkeys, pigs, dairy cattle, and sheep. That training eventually led to the establishment of the family business run by Christopher, Michael, and Nicholas.

Three Sons Farm reports that its operation focuses on the production of free-range chicken and eggs under a system in which the birds remain outdoors throughout their entire life cycle, feeding on grass, seeds, and insects.

The company states that this natural environment allows for healthier living conditions and is reflected in the quality of the meat and eggs.

Its product catalog also includes beef, chicken, pork, dairy products, honey, and Medjool dates, all within a diversified production system.

One of the central pillars of the model is regenerative agriculture. The farm maintains that “waste is simply an unused resource,” and therefore seeks to make full use of every input within the system.

Under this approach, poultry manure is incorporated back into the soil as a natural fertilizer, contributing to the restoration of grasslands and improving soil fertility.

According to the project description, this cycle reduces waste generation and promotes a productive ecosystem in which the soil remains active and nourished for future farming cycles.

The business operates from its headquarters at 2148 Robertson St., Ramona, California 92065, where direct pickup is available by appointment. It also participates in farmers markets such as the Cardiff market, held Saturdays at 3333 Manchester Ave., and the Leucadia market, held Sundays at 185 Union St., both located in San Diego County.

Additionally, the farm offers home delivery throughout San Diego County on Fridays between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., with a minimum order of $40 and the option to leave delivery instructions. It also provides free-range egg subscriptions on weekly, biweekly, and monthly plans.

These types of family-run businesses, beyond offering organic and free-range products, represent production models that reduce waste, strengthen small-scale agricultural economies, and maintain direct relationships between producers and consumers. More information at threesonsfarm.org.
