The 2022 FIFA World Cup group stages are set, and both USA and Mexio have been drawn into interesting groups.
The group stages were made official by the FIFA federation on Friday, confirming who every national team will play in the biggest tournament in the sport.
And of course, we've got you covered on the two most followed national teams in our community.
For the Mexican national team, they were drawn into Group C with the following opponents.
- Group C: Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Saudi Arabia
The Mexicans are set to face-off against, arguably, the greatest soccer player of all time in Leo Messi.
But it's not just Messi they have to worry about. Players like Angel Correa, Angel Di Maria, Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala and others are just a few names that makes Argentina the favorites to top this group, becoming Mexico's biggest hurdle to overcome in Group C.
President of the Mexican Football Federation Yon de Luisa says that they did not expect to be drawn into an easy group in this tournament, as every game in this tourney is difficult for everyone involved.
“There is no easy group, in a World Cup all the games are difficult and we must prepare very well to have a good World Cup. We are going to enjoy this with all the passion of our players and that of all the great fans we have." said Yon de Luisa.
And as for the United States Men's National Team, they were drawn into an interesting group themselves on Friday.
The Yanks will face the following opponents in Group B.
- Group B: England, United States, Iran, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine
For many, this group seems not-so challenging for the Americans, considering that England is the only match-up that is evidently superior to the Americans.
However, if Wales ends up qualifying for the World Cup, things could get interesting in Group B.
Gareth Bale has been on good form for his national team, as he enters most likely his last World Cup considering he is now 32 years old. The Real Madrid player has world-class talent that could single-handily push his team to come out with surprising results in this World Cup.
Nonetheless, USMNT coach is not over-confident approaching this World Cup, as he says this Group B is challenging considering the diverse style of play by the opponents they have to face in Qatar. The American coach also emphasized the excitement of playing against the powerhouse that is the England national team.
"We think it's a good group. Every opponent in the World Cup is difficult," Berhalter said in an interview with the BBC. "With England it's an exciting match-up, Iran are a diverse opponent who did well in qualifying and then we'll have to wait to see our third opponent. Overall I'm pleased with the group and excited to get started" he added.
