Are you ready to have your Amazon Prime packages delivered to you the coolest way possible?
You won't have to wait much longer, as Amazon announced Monday that it will start delivering Amazon packages by drone by the end of the year.
The company says it will begin this delivery strategy in the city of Lockeford, California, located in the San Joaquin County, just 50 miles south of the Sacramento area.
Amazon says it is in the process of getting permission from the FAA(Federal Aviation Administration) in the city of Lockeford to begin its drone deliveries experiment.
Heath Flora, California State Assemblyman, says that this is an exciting move for the San Joaquin County community, to be able to have a sneak peak into Amazon Prime drone delivery before it expands nationwide and globally.
“Lockeford residents will soon have access to one of the world’s leading delivery innovations,” said California State Assemblyman Heath Flora. “It’s exciting that Amazon will be listening to the feedback of the San Joaquin County community to inform the future development of this technology.”
Amazon says that although this experiment has taken years to launch, they guarantee it will be a breakthrough in online shopping services for the future.
“It took years of inventing, testing and improving to develop these breakthrough technologies and we’re excited to use them to make customer deliveries,” Amazon stated in a press release.
Accoring to the company, Lockeford was chosen partially because of its role in the history of aviation industry, being the hometown of aviation icon Weldon B. Cooke, who is famously known for creating aircraft in the early 20th century.
“Their feedback about Prime Air, which drones delivering packages in their backyards, will help us create a service that will safely scale to meet the needs of customers everywhere — while adding another innovation milestone to the town’s aviation history,” Amazon said.
