A phone line for senior residents and their caregivers in Chula Vista is now available to provide connections to resources and information city wide.

The Chula Vista Senior Connect Phone line, (619) 409-1932, was created through the city’s partnership with 211 San Diego and funding from the San Diego Foundation’s Age Friendly Communities Program. The city entered the AARP Age Friendly Communities network in 2016 and adopted an Action Plan in 2018 which aims to improve the quality of life for residents

“CV Senior Connect serves as a one stop shop for our senior community to memorize one number in order to access an abundance of services and participate in our community,” said Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas Salas. “The City and our partners are excited about the opportunity to serve and engage an even larger number of seniors in the community through this informational phone line.”

Issues worsened by the pandemic such as social isolation and access to essential services are addressed through this weekly informational line. Connections to resources such as information surrounding Project Cares, 211 San Diego, food distributions and current information on COVID-19 will be offered through the line.

“COVID-19 highlighted the digital divide faced by older adults and CV Senior Connect is an innovative approach local cities and governments can take to break down barriers to technology for older adults,”said William York, President and CEO of 211 San Diego. “We believe this partnership will become a successful model for other cities to connect more individuals and families to services and resources in our region.”

Automated messages regarding local events, programming, and important information regarding resources in the senior community can be accessed at any time to seniors with subscriptions.  Additional opportunities to participate by phone or virtually in programming and social activities will be offered by the City’s Library and Recreation departments as the CV Connect phone line progresses

Senior residents and caregivers may subscribe to this new service at (619) 409-1932. To learn more about the program, visit the City’s Age-Friendly webpage.
