San Diego County officials announced on Monday that eligible voters should receive their ballot in their mailbox this weekend for the April 5 Primary Election for Assembly District 80.

There are about 250,000 ballots that will be mailed to voters residing in California’s 80th Assembly District under 2011 district boundaries, including areas of Chula Vista, National City, and San Diego.

With these mailed ballots, residents can vote from home and return the ballot via mail. This will be the first election conducted under the Voter’s Choice Act, allowing for every active registered voter to automatically receive a ballot in the mail.

Residents are advised to ensure a signature and a date are present on the return envelope ballot in order for the vote to count.

Voters who return their ballot through the U.S. Postal Service can track it by signing up for “Where’s My Ballot?”.

Eligible voters can vote in person, as five-vote centers will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Saturday, March 26 until Election Day, Tuesday, April 5, when nine vote centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can find a ballot drop box or vote center location near you inside your official ballot packet, your voter information pamphlet, or you can look it up online at sdvote.com.

This election will fill the vacancy of former Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, who announced her resignation in January, for the remainder of the current term ending in December 2022.
