CardConnect recognized the state of California as one of the top 10 states with the highest search interest in "start an online business."
Newly published research ranked states with the most entrepreneurship by looking at the number of business applications filed in each state from September 2020 to August 2021. Those numbers are compared to each state's population to determine which is home to the highest number of potential entrepreneurs per person.
Researchers found that 1 in 78 people made a new business application this year, placing them 30th nationwide. Across the US, the average is every 1 in 63 people made a new business application in the same period.
The state saw a 40 percent increase in new business applications compared to 2019, placing them 25th nationwide. Across the US, the average increase in business applications when comparing figures pre-pandemic to now is over 44 percent.
"We found that nearly all US states have seen marked increases in new business applications when comparing figures since COVID-19, which is incredibly refreshing to see given the impact it has had on lives and businesses the world over," CardConnect spokesperson said in a statement.
California is ranked to have the 10th highest interest in starting a business with no money. Researchers came to this conclusion by analyzing Google Trends data for the phrase "start a business with no money."
Through analyzing Google Trend data for the phrase "start an online business," researchers found that California ranks 7th highest interest in starting an online business.
"While many of the four million or so people who have been quitting their jobs every month of late may be seeking alternative permanent employment, the new business application numbers suggest that thousands of others are seeking to launch their ventures," CardConnect spokesperson said in a statement.
The state with the smallest population was named the highest concentration of potential entrepreneurs in the USA with With 30,700 new business applications from its population of 577,737 people.
