New contracts with temporary health care workers are secured in preparation for the upcoming winter months through an executive order signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday that extends the state of emergency in California.
The executive order reads “California has stopped recording week-over-week declines in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, which demonstrates a plateau and the potential beginning of a new surge in COVID-19 cases”.
As of Nov.10, the state reported 3,716 new cases and 134 new deaths.
Out of state workers are allowed to treat patients in California through March 31, 2022 in this order. Administration of vaccines by emergency technicians are allowed.
There will be flexibility for vaccination sites by healthcare facilities. Rising cases of hospitalizations throughout the Central Valley and Southern California promoted these concerns.
California’s models predict an overall decline in hospitalizations and intensive care cases over the next month.
The city of Chula Vista last provided a COVID-19 update at an Oct.26 city council meeting presented by the city’s Emergency Services Manager Marlon King. “A slight uptick” was recorded 565 days after the city's Emergency Operations Center’s activation, which projected a gradual improvement between September and early October.
“The virus is still transmissible in our community. We will continue to live with the virus until a cure becomes available. Until then, we must continue to manage the spread,” King said.
Between December 2020 and January 2021, positive COVID-19 testing percentages reached its peak. With the implementation and availability of vaccines those numbers declined. King said the city is at a “manageable position” as numbers continue to decline.
Several zip codes in Chula Vista are under the high transmission category and one zip code within the substantial transmission. Transmission rates may be viewed per jurisdiction on the county’s case rate location dashboard.
Approximately 66.8 percent of Chula Vista’s residents are fully vaccinated across all zip codes within eligible populations of ages 12 and older. San Diego’s South Bay region as a whole demonstrated a strong vaccination percentage of 88.1 percent.
The Chula Vista Fire Department is currently offering vaccinations every Thursday from 1p.m to 4p.m at the Chula Vista City Hall.
