Chula Vista Public Library collaborates with the Friends of the Chula Vista Heritage Museum, Filipinos in San Diego, PASACAT and FANHS-San Diego and COPAO to build this exciting project that honors Filipinos and Filipino-Americans.
Tomorrow, Sunday October 2, The Chula Vista Public Library Civic Center Branch will hold the highly-anticipating grand opening of the Filipinos of South Bay Exhibit, and is running through December 31, 2023, according to the exhibit's website.
The exhibit has been developed to display significant stories, photographs and artifacts that have been shared by Filipinos in the South Bay community.
However, there will be scanners at the exhibit for locals who would like to share their materials at the location.
"If you were raised or lived in the South Bay region of San Diego, we invite you to submit your Filipino American experience or provide organizations, businesses or individuals that impacted your Filipino American Experience and what they did to impact it," organizers mentioned in their official website.
In a press release, organizers also stated the following on the objective of this historical exhibit in our South Bay community.
"Organizations, individuals, and businesses who have connections to the Filipino community are encouraged to participate and share their respective journeys or a pivotal moment capturing Filipinos in the spotlight. The goal is to find newspaper articles and memorabilia to support the common threads of connection, community, and contributions reflective of the Bayanihan Spirit and Kapwa for an upcoming “Filipinos of South Bay Exhibit.”
This local exhibit is being funded partially by:
- City of Chula Vista and the Create Chula Vista Arts Grant
- California Humanities
- County of San Diego Community Enhancement Program
- Friends of the Chula Vista Heritage Museum
- PASACAT
