A man in a stolen vehicle led authorities on a pursuit from Chula Vista to Orange County on Monday.
The pursuit began at around 5:49 p.m. when a Chula Vista Police Officer on patrol located a white Kia Optima that was reported stolen. According to authorities, the suspect fled after the officer made initial contact and struck the officer’s vehicle.
CHP officers continued the pursuit on Interstate 8. The driver sped over a spike strip at around 7:35, damaging at least one tire. A KTLA live feed showed the vehicle traveling north on Interstate 5 on heavily damaged tires.
The pursuit came to an end on the Santa Anna Freeway just past the Beach Boulevard overpass. The live stream showed the man refused to exit the vehicle.
CHP officers apprehended the driver and took him into custody at around 7:45 p.m.
