Father Joe’s Villages holds their 20th annual Thanksgiving Day 5K race to fight food insecurities in San Diego.
For this Thanksgiving Day, the food services program will continue their combat against family hunger with this race, which helps raise money to fund nourishing meals for San Diegans in need of assistance.
This Thursday’s 5K race held in Balboa Park will not only be a great opportunity for San Diego locals to catch a quality workout before their Thanksgiving meals, but also a significant way to give back to the community of San Diego. It raises awareness on one of San Diego’s biggest issues, which is city-wide homelessness.
The topic of homelessness in San Diego has increased post-pandemic, as food insecurity numbers have sky-rocketed the past 2 years since the rise of COVID-19, with over one million people in San Diego on the verge of experiencing hunger, including up to 280,000 children.
