The brother of Marciano Martinez Jimenez, one of the victims of the Half Moon Bay Massacre has established a Go Fund Me to help with funeral expenses and transportation to his hometown in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Marciano Martinez Jimenez, 50, was among six others fatally shot on Jan.23 during a “workplace violence” incident in the coastal town of Half Moon Bay. One other person was identified as the eighth victim, who survived the shooting.
Chunli Zhao, 66, the lone suspect in Monday’s massacre of agricultural workers at two mushroom farms in the seaside town, was charged on Wednesday with seven counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Servando Martinez Jimenez said his brother Marciano was a delivery person and manager at one of the farms. He never mentioned Zhao or said anything about problems with other workers.
Marciano Martinez Jimenez had lived in the United States for 28 years after arriving in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. Servando Martinez Jimenez said he s working with the Mexican consulate to get his brother’s body home.
“I'd like to thank God for the time I was able to spend with my brother Marciano. Marciano was an honorable person in our family. He was a good son, brother, uncle, and a great friend to everyone that knew him. He took on the father role for all of us,” Servando Martinez Jimenez said.
Marciano lived in the community of Half Moon Bay for twenty-five years and he is described by his brother as a hardworking man. He worked in Concord Farms and was a volunteer for RotaCare Clinic in Half Moon Bay.
“At this moment Marciano is in the company of my parents in heaven,” Servando said. “Marciano will always live in our hearts.”
As of Thursday morning, GoFund Me has raised $16,703 of its goal of $30,000. The funds will be used for the funeral expenses and to transport Marciano to his hometown in Oaxaca, Mexico.
