An investigation into a homicide is currently underway after a man was fatally stabbed near a gas station in San Ysidro.

The incident was reported to the San Diego Police Department just after 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, with the caller stating that a man had been stabbed in the 300 block of East San Ysidro Boulevard.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found the victim with a stab wound to his chest and he was subsequently transported to a hospital where he later passed away.

The victim, who is thought to have been in his 20s or 30s, was allegedly stabbed at a nearby vacant building on Center Street before walking to the gas station parking lot.

The motive behind the stabbing remains unknown at this time. San Diego Police Department's Homicide Detectives are currently searching the area for physical evidence, surveillance footage, and witnesses.
