The city of San Diego is offering several recycling locations to recycle Christmas trees as the holidays have come to an end.
The Environmental Services Department will be collecting Christmas trees at their drop-off sites through Jan. 23 for free during its 49th annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program. The program features 17 locations throughout San Diego for residents to dropp off their trees.
Chula Vista residents may choose to self-haul their natural trees free of charge, by placing them inside roll-off containers located next to the Republic Services Otay Landfill scale house: 1700 Maxwell Road, Chula Vista, CA 91911.
Residents may also choose to schedule a separate bulky pickup if the tree is not cut/sectioned into 4 feet or fewer portions. You may request this service by calling our customer resource center: (619) 421-9400.
The following tips are provided to help prepare Chula Vista residents to prepare their trees for organics recycling or disposal:
- Remove all ornaments, tinsel, garland, and plastic or metal stands
- Cut and section the tree so each portion is 4 feet or less
- Place INSIDE the correct container
-
- Flocked or plastic trees go in your black TRASH container
- Natural trees go in your green ORGANICS container*
Residents in the multi-family complex will have a designated pickup day for Christmas tree disposal during the second week of January. Residents are asked to have their trees out for collection before 6 a.m. on their scheduled pick-up day.
