Young people over 15 years of age can join the free classes offered by the San Diego Opera Education and Outreach Department in collaboration with Los Maníacos Latin Jazz Ensemble.
The Latin jazz ensemble, composed of students and amateurs, provides free lessons and jam sessions for intermediate and advanced musicians to practice the fundamentals of Latin jazz.
Classes are held on Saturdays from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., and jam sessions are on Mondays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The First Church of the Brethren (3850 Westgate Place, San Diego 92105).
Los Maníacos Latin Jazz Ensemble is directed by maestro Bill Caballero, a trumpeter of international renown who has performed weekly Latin jazz sets in Barrio Logan for more than 18 years and actively participated in local organizations and musical events.
You can send an email to educate@sdopera.org for further information. There is no charge for classes, and no audition is required. Vocalists and musicians of all genres are welcome.
