Flyweight World Champion Marlen Esparza has re-signed with Golden Boy Promotions on a new deal for the Mexican-American fighter.
Earlier today, September 7, Golden Boy Promotions announced that they will extend their partnership with the Texas-born professional boxer on a multi-year, multi-fight promotional contract.
Esparza was the first ever female boxing fighter to sign with Golden Boy Promotions back in 2016, and at this moment, her name is at the peak of the flyweight rankings. However, Golden Boy Promotions say that Esparza will look into exploring into other weight divisions in the future.
The 33-year-old has become the WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine Female Flyweight World Champion during her impressive boxing career.
Esparza says her loyalty to Golden Boy is paying off with this new deal between the fighter and the promotional company.
“In the cutthroat business of boxing, ‘loyalty’ has proven itself to be rewarding. I am super excited with my newly structured deal,” said Marlen Esparza. “I'm with Golden Boy – who has been my day one – I'm doing what I love with great compensation and have opportunities to become undisputed as a flyweight and unify in other weight divisions. Thank you, Golden Boy!”
Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Chairman and CEO, says that Marlen has been breaking barrier as a women in the boxing industry, due to her ethic, vision and commitment to the sport.
“Marlen Esparza has been a vanguard for female boxers and will continue to punch through glass ceilings as a woman in sports,” said De La Hoya. “We are extremely proud of how she has developed as a fighter. She has the work ethic, the vision and the hunger to become a unified world champion and crush other weight classes. Golden Boy is excited to have her and be a supportive partner as she continues her ambitious plans in boxing.”
