The Pedestrian West Border Crossing Facility at the San Ysidro Port of Entry reopened early Monday morning for the first time in nearly three years.
Travelers will be able to use the crossing facility will reopen and operate with limited hours from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.
According to San Ysidro Port of Entry Director Mariza Marin, the crossing facility is an effort to provide additional crossing flexibility to the binational region.
“We are working to restore our services to pre-pandemic status. We will continue to effectively manage wait times to enhance the border crossing experience for travelers that enter through the San Ysidro Port of Entry,” Marin said.
As a part of a $741 million renovation of the San Ysidro Port of Entry, PedWest opened in July 2016 to provide another crossing option for pedestrians crossing daily. It was closed to the public due to the pandemic in April 2020.
Border Patrol officials are reminding people they can always check border wait times online or simply by downloading the Border Wait Times app on their smartphones. Visit for more information https://bwt.cbp.gov/.
