There's finally an official time and date for Petco Park's first ever football game for this year's bowl season.

Organizers confirmed Tuesday that the 43rd annual edition of the SDCCU Holiday Bowl will be held at Petco Park on December 28 at 5 p.m.

This news is confirmed nearly seven months after the 2021 Holiday Bowl was cancelled due to a COVID-19 outbreak inside the UCLA Bruins locker room before facing off against North Carolina State.

The college football team from the state of North Carolina obviously expressed frustration after the cancelation became official last December 28, going to Twitter to express their major disappointment regarding the outbreak.

“Heartbroken to not be able to compete one more time this season,” North Carolina State, UCLA’s scheduled opponent tweeted. “We were informed a short time ago that our opponent would be unable to play this evening.”

But this time around it seems like it will be happening without a doubt, bringing the first every football game to the home of the Padres this year.

The President of this special bowl game released a statement saying they are excited to finally make this happen at Petco Park, especially after the last minute cancelation last winter.

“We’re excited to announce the 2022 bowl game date,” Holiday Bowl President Cherry Park stated. “Last year’s cancellation was certainly challenging and heartbreaking for college football fans and the entire San Diego community. We can’t wait for December 28 to finally bring the game and the amazing experience to Petco Park and downtown San Diego.”

Tickets for this year's Holiday Bowl will go on sale for the general public until August of this year, making it available first to annual college bowl game ticket holders. For any further questions or concerns regarding ticket sales, you can call 619-283-5808 Ext. 303.

The 2022 SDCCU Holiday Bowl game will be nationally televised on FOX 5 San Diego.
