San Diego falls short of another victory this season with a 1-2 loss to the Kansas City Current over the weekend.

On Sunday night at a packed Torero Stadium, the Wave played their first game with all their international players back from national team duties.

The Kansas City Current were up 2-0 for most of the match with goals from CeCe Kizer (27’), and Hailie Mace (39’). However, late into the match, Amirah Ali was subbed in to make a difference in the eventual defeat, and she scored San Diego's only goal in this match at the 88th minute. However, it was too late to regain full momentum to get a victory or even a draw.

SD Wave head coach Casey Stoney:

On Sunday's match against Kansas City Current:

“I'm not often disappointed, but I am today. The manner of our performance wasn’t good enough. We did not deserve to get anything out of today’s game, and we got what we deserved, which was a loss. Lots of things to fix, lots of things to review. I look at myself first and how I set the team up, but we did not come out the start well. The goal where [Hailie} Mace dribbled through and finished, that is not a team that I want to see again. People were taking free shots at our goal without blocks. It is never for lack of effort, we just were not at it today. We did not create enough. We were technically off today."

Coach Casey says that the departure of international duty players has affected the team's rhythm since last month. However, coach Stoney says they will focus on re-integrating those players into the team's flow.

“It was one of those days today. I don't think anything was deeper rooted today when your club is six months old. This team has not been playing together for long. We’ve had internationals come back in, and putting them in changes things as well. It was just an off day. We were technically and physically off today. We need to look at both sides of that. We have to re-integrate international players. I've made changes to the team, and I don't always get it right. Maybe today I didn't get it right.”

The San Diego Wave will host the Orlando Pride this coming Saturday night at Torero Stadium.
