Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is opening up a taco destination in the city of Chula Vista.

Earlier this week, the brother of Canelo confirmed that the world-class boxing fighter will be opening a new taco spot that is aiming to be known as the "Best Tacos in San Diego County" on 645 Broadway in Chula Vista, near the Chula Vista Shopping Mall.

The restaurant will be an expansion location of El Pastor Del Rica taqueria, which is originally operating in the state of Jalisco, the state where Saul Canelo Alvarez was born and raised into the world-class fighter he is today.

According to the Alvarez family, Chula Vista was the ideal destination for this restaurant expansion, due to the fact that the taco spot would be located near the Southern border. Another reason why Southern San Diego is a perfect location for this project, is because Canelo spends much of his training time in the city's Southbay area when he prepares for upcoming boxing events.

The taco chain will be replacing "DAR Chassis", the former suspension chassis and steering parts shop on Broadway, adding another taco location in the area along with the highly-popular and city-wide favorite, "Tacos El Gordo".

The Sports Illustrated's 2021 Fighter of the Year intends to transform the former auto parts shop into a place that offers an authentic-style taco, per Canelo's family.

El Pastor Del Rica will include Tacos Al Pastor as their main taco option, which is shaving-slices of pork that's marinated with guajillo spices along with achiote. This type of recipe was introduced to merchants from Lebanese that immigrated to Mexico during the early 1900's, with the intention of bringing an alternative version of shwarma.

Additionally, the location will also offer tacos de lengua (tongue), chorizo, suadero, campechano, tripe, and quesadillas as well on their menu.

According to the Alvarez family, this new location is expected to open up in either April or May of this year.
