SeaWorld announces it is months away from opening Sesame Place in Chula Vista, adding another grand theme-park for families throughout San Diego.

This project opening-date was released earlier this week, after being under-construction since 2019. According to SeaWorld, the theme park will include a Sesame Street neighborhood similar to the set shown on the original program, where kids will be able to interact with physical and digital show characters.

The theme-park is replacing the former location of Aquatica in Chula Vista, and will be keeping some of the old water attractions including a 500,000 gallon wave pool.

SeaWorld’s CEO Marc Swanson says San Diego was the right move for the company, due to the amount of tourism it welcomes year-round. “San Diego is a premiere tourist destination and Sesame Place is the perfect place for families looking to learn and play on the West Coast.” Swanson said. “We’re excited that our Sesame Street friends are coming to San Diego and are eager to give locals a fun new experience, as well as provide tourists another great reason to visit San Diego.” Swanson added.

According to SeaWorld, guests will be able to purchase their 2022 Season Pass to Sesame Place San Diego prior to the grand-opening of the theme-park.
