A real-life horror scene ensued on Saturday when two teenagers were shot and killed outside a Halloween house party in National City, police reported.
The National City Police Department’s dispatch center received multiple calls of shots being fired at about 11:35 p.m. on Oct. 29 on East 17th street near Palm Ave. Responding officers at the scene found an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl suffering from gunshot wounds.
The teenagers were transported to a local trauma center but succumbed to their injuries. Police said the victims have been identified, but their names were not released pending family notifications.
According to National City police Lt. Derek Aydelotte, National City Police requested assistance from neighboring agencies due to the large crowd. The San Diego Police Department, the Chula Vista Police Department, and the Sheriff’s Department arrived to help secure the scene.
Diana Del Valle publicly identified the 16-year-old girl as her daughter, Gillian Aguilera, who was “so full of life, style, and charisma”, Diana wrote in a GoFundMe titled “My beautiful daughter was taken too soon”.
“She had many plans that will never be reached,” Diana wrote. “Gillian was a giving friend, loving sister, and loyal daughter.”
According to the GoFundMe page, Gillian had just turned 16 years old.
“She was preparing herself for college, enjoyed thrift shopping, celebrating her friend's quinceaneras, and taking care of her cat Tommy and dog Duke. She made an impact in so many peoples life's and was beginning to learn how to drive to get her driver's license,” Diana said.
Diana continued, “we are devasted by her passing. Our family is distraught and overwhelmed by the situation. Any support you provide will assist the family through this hard time.”
As of Monday afternoon, the family has received $1,840 from 37 donors. Their goal is to reach $10,000.
“At this time we have very, very limited information,” Aydelotte told OnScene TV. “We are in desperate need of the public’s assistance with this case.”
Anyone with information is urged to call the National City Police Department Investigations Division at 619-336-4457 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
