The Altrusa Club of Chula Vista announced it's newly sponsored community volunteer organization, the Community Astra Club, aimed to uplift youth in the community.

The ASTRA club is open to all high school students ages 14-19 in the community to read and record stories for younger in their neighborhoods. With the help of Altrusa advisors, the club’s initiatives aims to improve literacy by going out and reading to younger students in their community.

“These young leaders are helping children discover new worlds, travel through time, or experience a new adventure through the pages of a book,” Community ASTRA Club said.

The club's future service projects includes environmental clean ups at parks and beaches, in addition to participating in a Christmas toy drive with the goal of providing ability, service, training, responsibility and achievement to participating youth. The club will also work alongside other civic and volunteer groups and interact with business, professional and civic leaders.

Altrusa International of Chula Vista, Inc. is dedicated to improving the South Bay community by providing service and financial support, developing leadership, fostering education, and encouraging fellowship through an international network of volunteers. Members of the club will be able to apply for an exclusive ASTRA scholarship.

Members of the public who wish to support the organization can make donations from their Amazon wish list found here. To learn more about Community ASTRA club, visit their website at Community Astra Club   or email altrusacv@gmail.com
