The San Diego Humane Society wants prospective adopters to name their price for adult dogs ages 7 months and older through Sunday.
This promotion will take place through Nov. 20 to allow adopters name their price out of 230 available adult dogs.
“We have an incredible amount of adult dogs in our care and we are running out of space,” said San Diego Humane Society Chief Operating Officer Jessica Des Lauriers. “We would love to see these deserving pups in homes where they belong instead of kennels. Even a shelter as great as ours can’t compare to the comfort of a home.”
There is a total of 650 animals available for adoption at the San Diego Humane Society. Officials say adoption can help create space in the shelter for other animals.
Other benefits include getting an animal who has been assessed and cared for, getting a pet who has been spayed/neutered and vaccinated, and receiving an adoption guarantee, training advice, and educational information for the life of the animal.
According to the San Diego Humane Society, community members who are unable to adopt a pet can still make a difference by:
- Fostering a pet. By becoming a foster volunteer, you give an animal a temporary break from the shelter and create space for other animals with nowhere else to turn. Sign up at sdhumane.org/foster<https://www.sdhumane.org/support-us/volunteer/foster/>.
- Use rehoming resources. If a person needs to give up their pet, San Diego Humane Society offers rehoming tools that allow them to find their animal’s new family themselves — skipping a trip to the shelter. Visit sdhumane.org/rehome<https://www.sdhumane.org/services/give-up-a-pet/>.
- Reuniting stray animals directly with their owners. By searching for the lost pet’s family in their own neighborhood and on social media. Visit sdhumane.org/found<https://www.sdhumane.org/services/lost-and-found/> for tools and resources to help a lost pet find their owner.
- Planning ahead. Due to limited space, an appointment may be necessary to relinquish your pet<https://www.sdhumane.org/services/give-up-a-pet/>. If you know you will need to give up your pet due to a move or other planned situation, make arrangements with San Diego Humane Society as early as possible. This will ensure space remains available for animals in urgent need.
