Chula Vista resident Sophia Hoffman secured a spot on Team Niall in Season 24 of The Voice by singing “Tell Me You Love Me” by Demi Lovato.

After getting no chairs to turn in Season 23 with her performance of “Amor Eterno” by Rocío Dúrcal, Sophia came back better than ever.

“We always tell people, come back and it might work out,'” John Legend told Hoffman. “Now look what happened.”

This season, 18-year-old Sophia intrigued two of the coaches, Niall Horan from One Direction and country singer Reba McEntire, with her powerful belt.

“You just said you are 18, I can’t believe that,” Horan said. “There was so much more grit and maturity than what I was expecting.”

Sophia says she draws inspiration for her voice from former The Voice coach Jennifer Hudson.

Sophia’s determined spirit is inherited from her mother, Hilda, who grew up in poverty in Mexico City. Hilda moved to the United States when she was just six years old, and Sophia is deeply grateful for her mother’s journey. She recognizes that her ability to pursue her American dream is due to her mother’s bravery, sacrifices, and unwavering support.

Despite her challenges with learning disabilities, Sophia is embarking on her second year at Chico State University, pursuing communication in public affairs.
