Employees at the San Diego Hilton Bayfront Hotel go on strike as Comic Con approaches.

Earlier today, Wednesday, Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel workers went on strike just one day before the international phenomenon, Comic Con, goes into full-force in the city of San Diego.

The strike was led by Unite Here Local 30, which is a a union that represents over 6,000 hard working hotel, food service, airport and gaming workers in all of San Diego County.

The union took to Twitter on Tuesday night to announce their decision to strike, after continued failed bargaining talks and lack of agreement on the matter between both parties. The strike took place outside the Hilton that is located to the hip of the San Diego Convention Center in Downtown, San Diego, closer to the Seaport Village area.

The president of the Union involved this strike said that they will continue to fight for what they deserve from the billion dollar industry they work for.

“We can’t allow hotel workers to continue suffering in a billion dollar industry,” Brigette Browning said, the president of Unite Here Local 30. “These workers are ready to fight for what they deserve.”'

Unite Here Local 30 says they are seeking a $6 raise into their hourly wages for the next two years. However, the hotel responded with an offer of a $2.50 increase instead over a year and a half.

A spokesperson for Hilton Bayfront told local CBS the following:

“Hilton San Diego Bayfront is currently in negotiations with UNITE HERE Local 30, which represents some of our Team Members, for a new collective bargaining agreement. We are continuing to welcome guests and have contingency plans in place to ensure operations run as smoothly as possible. We are confident that the hotel and the union will reach a fair agreement that is beneficial to both our valued Team Members and to our hotel.”
