At 2:50 a.m. Friday, a Tesla flipped after the crash and caught fire, according to OnScene TV.

Area residents extricated the driver, who was taken to a hospital, the video news service said.

The batteries of the Tesla exploded, posing a threat to firefighters in Chula Vista. The fire was put out, and debris was left in the westbound lanes of H Street.

The Chula Vista Police Department is investigating a suspected DUI incident, as reported by OnScene TV.

    his would have been much more dangerous if the car had been carrying something very volatile to flames, like gasoline
