The City of Chula Vista is hosting an “open meeting” with laws and ethics requirements training for Chula Vista City Council, and other officials on Feb.16, where members of the public are encouraged to participate.
The training covers several topics at an upcoming Chula Vista City Council workshop on Feb.16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at 276 Fourth Avenue. Under California Assembly Bill 1234, the public’s business must be conducted in public, and city officials must comply with state and local ethics laws.
The law also requires that the public be given access to public records. City officials – including the mayor, councilmembers, members of city boards and commissions, and designated staff must not only comply with these requirements but must also receive periodic training in applicable laws and regulations.
AB 1234 was signed into law on Oct.7, 2005, by then-Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The state Fair Political Practices Commission has made the AB 1234 Local Ethics Training available to satisfy the local official's ethics training requirement.
According to the city, presentations will be given by Chula Vista City Attorney, Glen Googins, Deputy City Attorney Megan McClurg, and City Clerk, Kerry Bigelow.
The workshop will be held in Council Chambers at 276 Fourth Avenue, and registration is requested. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JV97RB7 .
