San Diego Loyal SC goalkeeper Duran Ferree recorded his second shutout in two appearances in the CONCACAF U-17 Championship as the U.S. defeated Canada, 1-0, Wednesday evening in Antigua, Guatemala.
Ferree made two saves, including pushing a free kick from just outside the penalty area over the crossbar in the 84th minute as the U.S. completed Group F play 3-0-0.
Keyrol Figueroa headed in a cross from David Vasquez in the 65th minute for the game's lone goal.
The United States out-possessed Canada, 67% to 33%, led 10-4 in shots, 3-2 in shots on goal and 5-1 in corner kicks.
The U.S. improved to 10-1-0 all-time against Canada at the CONCACAF U- 17 Championship and has won 10 straight since losing the first meeting in 1988.
Goalkeeper Nathaniel Abraham made two saves for Canada, which finished second in Group F with a 2-1-0 record.
The U.S. will next play Saturday against the Dominican Republic to in a round of 16 game. The Dominican Republic qualified directly to the Round of 16 via a pre-qualifying tournament.
Each of the tournament's four semifinalists will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru.
Ferree made one save in a 5-0 victory over Barbados in the U.S. opener in the tournament Saturday.
The 16-year-old Ferree was added to the roster Feb. 6 after goalkeeper Diego Kochen was ruled out of the tournament because of an elbow injury.
Ferree participated in a training camp with the under-17 men's national team Jan. 5-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was among three alternates who traveled with the team to Guatemala to train with it prior to the tournament.
The alternates were to depart before the start of the tournament, barring any injuries.
Saturday's game was Ferree's first with the under-17 men's national team.
