A 35-year-old man incarcerated at the George Bailey Detention Facility in Otay Mesa died in custody on Friday, the San Diego Sheriff’s Department announced. 

Sheriff's deputies found the incarcerated man unresponsive on a bunk in the housing quad. Deputies and medical staff responded immediately with medical aid and administered several doses of Naloxone, the department wrote in a statement. 

According to Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chris Steffen, paramedics arrived and provided additional life-saving measures, but despite the efforts of emergency responders, the man did not survive. He was pronounced deceased at 10:25 a.m.

The man's identity remains unreleased pending family notification. 

The Homicide Unit is investigating the incident. 

The Medical Examiner’s office will schedule an autopsy. The incarcerated man's death was reported to the Citizens' Law Enforcement Review Board

No other information was released.
